A geothermal resource exploration project is being initiated by 2004 Insaat Muhendislik Mobilya San. ve Tic. Ltd. Sti. (2004 Construction Engineering) in the Uzunburun area of Yunusemre district, Manisa province in Türkiye. The project will be conducted in a licensed area under 2021-AR-04 and ER:3356982, covering a total area of 2,312.74 hectares.

Geological Structure

The project area is primarily composed of the Bornova Complex (Izmir Flysch), which includes metamorphic sandstone and mudstone. Overlying formations from the Miocene era include claystone-limestone alternations and agglomerate/andesite layers. Quaternary alluvium covers the eastern part. This geological structure is critical for the efficiency of the drilling activities.

Project Details and EIA Process

The project complies with the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) regulations, particularly under the category of “Exploration and/or extraction of geothermal resources.” No national parks, protected areas, or heritage sites are located near the project area. A single borehole will be drilled within a 450 square meter area. The nearest settlement is Akgedik, 270 meters away. Water for drilling and dust control will be supplied via tanker trucks, while drinking water for workers will be provided in bottles.

Operational Process and Commitments

During drilling, all environmental requirements will be met as per the Ministry of Environment’s guidelines. Coordination with relevant authorities will occur if there are changes in the number or location of drilling points. The company has committed not to commence production until the EIA process is fully completed.

This project is significant for the development of geothermal resources in the region, and updates will be closely monitored. Geological studies for the project have been conducted by Jeomesa. You can find more details about the company’s project in Menemen, Izmir, in a past story published by JeotermalHaberler.
