The Philippines Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has renewed Maibarara Geothermal, Inc.’s (MGI) certificate of compliance (COC) to operate its two geothermal facilities in Sto. Tomas town, Batangas province, PetroEnergy Resources Corp., as reported by the Manila Times.

Maibarara Geothermal Inc. operates the 20 MW Maibarara 1 and the 12 MW Maibarara 2 geothermal power plant. The granted operational permit extends to October 2023.

MGI is a joint venture between PetroEnergy renewable-energy unit PetroGreen Energy Corp. (65 percent), PHINMA Energy Corp. (25 percent) and state-owned PNOC Renewables Corp. (10 percent).

ERC approved the renewal of the compliance certificate for MGI’s first unit and integrated its approval for Maibarara-1 with that for Maibarara-2 in accordance with ERC Resolution 16, Series of 2014m which mandates the consolidation of all individual COCs of one generation company under a single one.

“ERC’s renewal of our COC testifies to the continuing technical, operational and financial compliance of our two geothermal facilities to regulatory standards,” MGI President Francisco Delfin Jr. said.

Maibarara 1 started commercial operations in 2014 and Maibarara 2 went online in 2018.
