The European Geothermal Workshop (EGW) is organized bi-yearly in different countries by members of the EERA Joint Program of Geothermal Energy. Last year’s edition was held at the Utrecht University in the Netherlands

The workshop proposes a platform of scientific exchange, especially between PhD students and scientists, and to present latest findings and results achieved in national and international, in particular EU-funded, research and demonstration projects.

One of the highlights of this year’s workshop will the visit to the UiS’s Energy Central, a combined geothermal energy production and research facility at the Campus Ullandhaug. Slated to be completed by the end of 2024, the facility will reduce energy consumption for heating and cooling by 80% by extracting geothermal heat from a borehole field of 119 wells. It will also act as a living laboratory for geothermal research, particularly in the fields of advanced modeling based on machine learning and artificial intelligence.
