Soon, two international student events at the RGN faculty

The student branch of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) operating at Mining-Geology-Petroleum Faculty, University of Zagreb< /a>, from March 7 to 9, 2024, organizes an international conference on the topic of using geothermal energy with the aim of connecting future engineers as carriers of the energy transition that has begun with domestic and international experts and businessmen.

The Republic of Croatia is rich in geothermal energy, which is not used enough even though it has great potential. Namely, the geothermal gradient in the Republic of Croatia is 60% higher compared to the European average, therefore the students of RGNF launched a commendable initiative, with the help of the faculty and the Croatian Association for Geothermal Energy (HUGE), to bring together faculties, state institutions in one place , institutes, agencies and companies, thereby striving to improve their own knowledge in the field of geoenergy through examples of good practice. According to initial information, the conference aroused great interest from both domestic and European associations and companies.

The University of Zagreb SPE Student Chapter is a student branch of the Society of Petroleum Engineers – SPE, which has around 120,000 members from 138 countries.In the period from March 11 to 13, 2024, the association organizes an international student energy congress under the name “Annual Student Energy Congress 2024″, which in its eleven years of existence has grown into the largest and most important student energy congress in Europe. The entire program consists of lectures by experts from the scientific and business sectors, organization of workshops aimed at solving specific problems and energy issues, panel discussions with leading experts, student presentations and field visits to the most interesting localities within the industry.

Since the student branch itself is recognized on a regional and global level and has been awarded for the same, as part of ASEC 2024 they have the honor of organizing the largest European championship in the knowledge quiz from the oil and energy industry PetroBowl (2024 SPE PetroBowl Europe Regional Qualifier) ​​and the opportunity to host in Zagreb the authors of the best student papers at the SPC competition (2024 Student Paper Contest).

With the aim of contributing to the prosperity of the region in which they operate, the SPE Zagreb Association has been recognized by the President of the Republic of Croatia as a high patron of the mentioned congress, as well as by the most important energy companies in the territory of the Republic of Croatia and beyond, which support the effort, commitment and ambition of these young people with their contributions.

Under this year’s motto of the congress: “SHAPING THE FUTURE TOGETHER.” ASEC 2024 not only represents a top event that brings together experts, entrepreneurs and future innovators, but also encourages the creation of a sustainable future based on technological progress, cooperation and global action, with a vision that recognizes the importance of young people people in shaping the future of energy.

Both student events in the month of March, as well as the regional Georudariyada (sports meetings and gatherings of students from related faculties from the region), which this year is hosted by the Student Union of RGNF and which will held in the month of April in Trogir, is a huge contribution of the student associations that are active at the RGN faculty and the University of Zagreb, on the occasion of 60 years of independent work of the faculty and 105 years of organized higher education in the field of mining, geology, geological and petroleum engineering in the Republic of Croatia.
